This past week, we finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. So, to celebrate, we had a fun Wonka Night.
Before I let the kids go crazy with sugar, I made sure they ate good dinner. At the beginning of the book, Charlie and his family eat a lot of cabbage. LOTS and LOTS of cabbage. So I made this!
Oriental Cabbage Salad
1 head Napa cabbage
green onions to taste
3 packages Ramen Noodles, crushed. (save flavor packets for dressing)
1 can water chestnuts (optional)
2 boiled chicken breasts, shredded.
Shred the cabbage and thinly slice green onions, place in a large mixing bowl. Add Ramen noodles, water chestnuts and chicken. Toss.
Dressing
4-5 Tbs. Rice vinegar
3/4 c. vegetable oil
2 Tbs. sugar
3 favor packets from Ramen noodles.
mix all ingredients together well. (I use a handheld blender.) Pour over salad and allow 2 or more hours for the salad to "rest" before serving. This is one of the only ways I can get my kids to eat cabbage. They LOVE IT!! We served it with homemade rolls. . . yum!
After Dinner, I gave the kids each a Wonka bar. They excitedly opened it to see if they'd won golden tickets.
And would you know it. . . THEY DID!!
We then we snuggled in to watch the newer version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. (I think this one follows the book a lot more closely than the older version.)
While watching the kids were treated with lots of Wonka candy. Gobstoppers, Bottlecaps, Laffy Taffy, and Their favorite, Milk Chocolate Waterfalls.
they washed it all down with none other than Mr. Willy Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drink. It was scrumdiddlyumpcious!!
